A bit late, but if you fancy it Im running a free coaching session tonight 1900hrs in Enfield.

For those that don’t know, I am in the process of developing my cycle coaching skills.

There are about 4 places left, first come first severed :-)

I have recently completed a two-day British Cycling Coaching course and enable finalise of my accreditation I need to run some training sessions. In fact I need to deliver six structured coaching sessions with a least three people in each session.

The session

A group structure coaching session at a secret local velodrome

Ideas for sessions include
- Riding with others in a tight group
- Through and offs (Be head the snake)
- Points racing
- Match sprints

The Velodrome in Tatem Park, Enfield at 267 Hedge Ln, London N13 5DE, UK
Its banked, smooth, marked out, has 50m straights and with some very quick strava times ! There is a covered area to stand, has toilets and free to use. The park closes at 2015hrs at this time of the year.

The session will run tonight for an hour, arriving at 1830hrs for an hour from 1900hrs start until the park closes at around 2000ish.

A road bike will be needed

Some examples of what Im thinking of -

Behead the snake
We ride smoothy together, at a constant pace, maintaining gaps working together as a team with continual through and offs

Team sprint
Two teams of two or three in each starting on opposite sides of track, each lap a rider peels off and fastest wins

It turned out to be a good session.

Hawkeye, Wayne and Vince from East London Velo. Lasted an hour and the rain stayed off until we finished. Then it lashed down. Did you get wet Martin?

Even though it was all on road bikes there was a lot of skill transfer to MTB. One part included riding with elbows out and shoulder to shoulder stuff. Great for the last 10mins in the mud

Riding as a team with through and offs went well too.

I may do another one next Monday if there are enough hands raised. Let me know.

I may of got a little wet on the way back :)

It was a good session. Really enjoy the through and offs and bottle bits. Need to work on my close group riding as I am bit nervous. All the elbows out will certainly help on the MTB start line.

It was really good to get some tips from the pros. I'll be up for a bit of Monday coaching :cheer:

That little track is great! Can't believe we did 10 miles round it last night.

Thanks to you all for getting me back up to Chingford.

About

MBRO35 (Mountain Bike Riders Over 35) are a social group of riders, not a club. As you may have guessed we are mostly over 35 years of age although some that ride are younger so don't let that put you off.

The group ride on a Saturday morning at 11am in Epping Forest which is to the North East of London. A lot of us have lived around and cycled in the forest for a good number of years and we are lucky to have some regular riders who know their way around the miles of singletrack very well. We ride all year round and usually get a pretty good turn out in all but the foulest weather. We are a sociable group and the emphasis is on enjoyment rather than speed or the mileage travelled. Having said that, the rides can be fairly quick at times and whilst we welcome riders of all abilities you will need a good level of fitness in order to keep up as well as a mechanically sound mountain bike. We ride mostly on the forest singletrack, the narrowness of the trails and exposed tree roots make for some challenging technical riding.

In addition to the regular Saturday rides we also do forest night rides on a Wednesday evening at 7pm as well as occasional away days or weekends. If you prefer your wheels on firmer ground, there is also a strong road contingent within the group that often rides out into the Essex and Hertfordshire countryside on a Saturday or Sunday. The road rides usually leave earlier in the day and head out via High Beech for trips of anything up to 70 miles. Most local rides are followed by a debrief in The Station House pub in Chingford where thanks to a very amiable Landlady we have a place to wash the bikes and store them in safety while we have a few beers and discuss the events of the day. You can also read about some of our most recent rides in the Ride Reports section on the forum.
